Your Boy traveled with Kabelo to Addis last week to attend and host the African Youth day celebrations. I was mad nervous as the invite said I would have to address the youth at some point and ya’ll know I’ve never been one for speeches. We landed on Thursday evening and were stuck at the airport due to visa complications. Trip quickly turned positive when we were booked into the Sheraton Hotel (real nice.) Friday we got to work immediately visiting the AU building to interview the moderator of the Speak Africa website www.speakafrica.org then checked out the university of fine arts to learn how students use their works for positivity and consciousness. We then visited a home of destitute kids and I was inspired after learned that an 11 year old orphan wrote a published her own book. Ended the evening at the AU once again were KB and I were introduced as the guests from SA and the Channel O presenters here to host and cover the festivities, ended up sparking freestyles to delegates and ambassadors.
Saturday 1st Nov African Youth Day, youth gathered at Meskel Square ready to take part in the “March for Peace and Solidarity”. I step up to make a speech, drop some knowledge on em and off we March to the African Union Buildings. There I mc the event which started with some speeches from dignitaries then the party began. Artist after artist I introduce until I snatched the mic myself and did what comes naturally. The African Union’s Youth Anthem was performed and a video was shot for “New Day for Africa’ the Speak Africa Youth Anthem. Symbolic white doves and balloons were released….
